qEEG and neurofeedback

Understand the recording. Understand the training.

qEEG records brain activity for interpretation; neurofeedback is a separate in-person training process guided by the assessment and other relevant information.

What qEEG records

A quantitative electroencephalogram records electrical activity at the scalp. A psychometrist completes the recording. Interpretation is provided through Applied Neuroscience, and a written report is included.

What neurofeedback does

Neurofeedback is a training process in which feedback is provided during sessions according to an individualized protocol. The qEEG assessment and other relevant information inform that protocol. It is distinct from the recording itself.

The service pathway

A free consultation helps determine whether the service is a reasonable fit. The qEEG recording is completed in person, interpretation and the written report are prepared, and the neurofeedback plan is discussed. Training requires a minimum commitment of twenty in-person sessions.

Current prices

The qEEG assessment and written report are CAD $1,850. Twenty neurofeedback sessions are CAD $2,000. The combined package is CAD $3,500.

In-person attendance

Both the recording and neurofeedback training are in-person services. Clients considering the combined pathway should account for the minimum twenty-session commitment when choosing a location.

Results and evidence limits

Individual results vary. Neurofeedback is not presented as a cure, permanent rewiring or guaranteed improvement. The consultation should consider goals, practical commitment, other care and the limits of the evidence relevant to the person’s concern.

Diagnosis and medical care

qEEG does not independently diagnose ADHD or another condition. It does not replace a comprehensive assessment when diagnostic clarification is the question, and the service does not imply that medication or other medical care is inferior or unnecessary.

Frequently asked questions

Is qEEG the same as neurofeedback? No: one is a recording and interpretation process, the other is training. Is a report included? Yes. Are sessions virtual? No. Is improvement guaranteed? No. Does qEEG diagnose ADHD? Not independently.
