ADHD assessment

A comprehensive pathway for ADHD concerns

Attention concerns are assessed alongside learning, emotional, sleep, trauma, executive-function and other relevant factors—not through a quick standalone screen.

Why ADHD assessment needs context

Difficulty focusing, organizing, beginning tasks or regulating activity can occur for different reasons. ADHD can overlap with learning differences, emotional concerns, sleep, trauma, executive-function difficulties and other conditions. A useful assessment considers that context instead of assuming one explanation.

Not a quick screening product

OSR does not offer a quick standalone ADHD screening product. ADHD concerns enter the comprehensive assessment pathway, beginning with consultation and clinical interview. Measures are then selected to answer the individual referral question.

What the process can include

The process may integrate history, behavioural information, attention measures, cognitive and academic testing, psychological measures and qEEG when clinically appropriate. Psychometrists conduct structured testing, and the supervising psychologist reviews the integrated findings and signs applicable reports.

The role of qEEG

qEEG records patterns of electrical brain activity and may add information to a broader assessment. It does not independently diagnose ADHD and should not be interpreted as replacing clinical history, standardized measures or psychologist judgment.

Report and next steps

The completed report explains the findings, diagnostic reasoning and recommendations. Recommendations may address school, postsecondary, workplace or treatment planning where supported by the assessment.

Medication and treatment decisions

Assessment provides information; it does not imply that medication is inferior or unnecessary. Medical treatment decisions belong with an authorized prescriber and should reflect the person’s needs, preferences and clinical circumstances.
