Who this assessment is for
People seek psychoeducational assessment when learning, academic performance, attention, accommodations or broader diagnostic questions are affecting school, postsecondary study, work or daily functioning. The consultation considers the referral question and whether this pathway is a suitable next step.
The questions it can address
The assessment can examine patterns of cognitive and academic strengths and difficulties, attention and executive functioning, and relevant psychological factors. It is not a single ADHD test or a fixed package. The purpose is to integrate multiple sources of information around the question being asked.
Consultation and clinical interview
The process starts with a free consultation. If assessment is appropriate, a clinical interview gathers developmental, educational and relevant health history. That information guides measure selection; OSR does not promise the same battery for every client.
Testing
Testing is completed in person, usually in one full day or two half-days. Psychometrists administer the measures. Depending on the clinically indicated questions, measures may include qEEG, a continuous performance test, WISC or WAIS cognitive testing, WIAT achievement testing, and other appropriate measures.
Review and report
Sharon Batstone provides supervising-psychologist review and signs applicable reports. The report explains findings, diagnostic reasoning and recommendations in an integrated form. Typical turnaround is six to eight weeks after testing is complete.
Recommendations and school support
Recommendations are tied to the findings and the person’s context. School support, letters or meetings may be available where clinically appropriate. Availability and scope are discussed with the team rather than assumed as part of every assessment.
Fees and coverage
The current fee is CAD $3,500–$4,500 depending on the measures clinically indicated. Extended-health coverage varies by insurer and plan. Clients should verify eligible provider categories, limits and documentation requirements directly with their insurer.
Important limits
A qEEG can contribute information as one component of a comprehensive process, but it is not a standalone diagnosis. Assessment findings depend on the information and participation available at the time and do not replace medical care when a medical evaluation is indicated.
